Due to this pandemic a lot of students have had to learn to adapt to online learning. While some may prefer this way of learning over in person learning, there are others who are used to seeing their classmates and professors in a classroom setting. This year has been very difficult all around and trying to format learning into an online method hasn't made it any better. I think the next "new media" should focus solely on education and making online learning more interactive.
For example, my sister is 5 years old. She never really went out much before the pandemic due to everyone having busy schedules, but school was a chance for her to go outside and interact with other kids her age. It gave her something else to do other than play on her tablet all day, but now with school being online she doesn't get the same interaction. I worry that this may have an effect on her wanting to go outside and talk to others in the future. In order to change that I think that there should be some sort of "new media" that makes learning interesting for people, like my baby sister, who have a lot of energy and short attention spans.
Maybe this "new media" could make learning into little games where it keeps track of points so that she can see that she's doing well and in return she will want to continue to do well. This "new media" could have a way for students to interact more with each other and make friends. Maybe a group messaging section so that the kids can be assigned a teacher in the group along with a few other kids. This will also make it so that she's more comfortable talking over her feeling like she shouldn't say anything because she's afraid she'll be wrong. Also, it should incorporate a proper homework schedule and calendar to keep track of zoom meetings so that parents will also be up to date and be able to follow their children's progress. It's important to be organized and make learning fun when students are stuck at home.
Hi Raven,
ReplyDeleteYou are making a really important here when referring to online learning. Due to the pandemic the world is facing, many students from any age are having a hard time following the classes online for many different reasons. I believe that for young kids, it must be even harder and I like your idea of making "interactive" courses like games so they are more willing to learn.
Hi Raven, I completely agree with you about how this pandemic has been very hard and this year has been very difficult for everyone and as we are getting used to this "new norm" , I agree with you 100% that the new media should focus solely on "education and making online learning more attractive". I also liked the example that you gave about your 5 year old sister.
